How to use the workshop
Keep equality intact. Applying the same addition, subtraction, or nonzero multiplication or division to both sides preserves the solution. For example, subtracting 4 from 2x + 4 = 16 produces 2x = 12.
Isolate one x. Then dividing every term by 2 produces x = 6. The controls transform the equation itself; they do not ask you to select a premade answer.
Use a symbolic balance. Tile labels represent exact values. Dashed outlines denote negative terms. Negative values and fractions are algebraic quantities; the picture is not a physical simulation of their masses.
